Calling all creative – and caffeinated – chefs: this recipe contest is for you.

The ninth annual Durango Coffee Festival is coming up on Sept. 7, and organizers are looking for original appetizer or dessert recipes that feature coffee as an ingredient.

The deadline for entries is Sept. 5, and a prepared sample of each dish must be submitted for judging at the festival.

The event, a fundraiser for the Durango Education Center co-sponsored by The Durango Herald, will be held from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 7 at the intersection of Eighth Street and Main Avenue in downtown Durango.

The creator of the best appetizer will win a $100 cash prize, and the winner of the dessert category will receive a $100 gift card to Durango Coffee Co.
