A run into the CHSCA Hall of Fame

Ron Keller was surrounded by family and friends, including Steve Thyfault and 2009 inductee Vernon Kimball, Saturday night when he was enshrined in the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Ron Keller is used to making history when it comes to Durango High School’s cross country and track and field teams.

Keller, who coached the Demons from 1978 to 2002, was enshrined in the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday night in Aurora. He was one of five coaches in the 51st induction class, and he became the first DHS coach to ever receive the honor.

“It is more about all the people who helped get me here than it is about me. There are a lot of coaches and people along the way who deserve to be up here with me,” Keller said. “I have to thank all my assistant coaches and all the athletes who dedicated their time and effort into helping us win.”

Keller led the Demons to eight team state championships in boys and girls cross country, and seven of his teams had runner-up finishes. He was named the CHSCA cross country coach of the year in 1994 and 1998.
