Adams State volleyball gets past Fort Lewis College

FLC volleyball falls to 1-8 in conference

The Fort Lewis College volleyball team wasn’t able to win a home match against a opponent with a similar record Tuesday.

The Adams State Grizzlies (4-13, 3-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) defeated the Skyhawks 3-1 inside Whalen Gymnasium.

Adams State took the first two sets 25-16, 25-20 before FLC (4-13, 1-8 RMAC) rallied to take the fourth 25-19. But the Grizzlies closed out the surging Skyhawks with a 25-23 fourth set.

Alex Parker led the Grizzlies with 26 kills while hitting for a .264 percentage. Mallory Grimsrud and Briannah Mariner finished with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Matisse Monty once again led FLC in kills with 10. Monty recorded a double-doubly by coming up with 15 digs. Gabriella Hickman and Maddie LeBlanc each had eight. Hickman also led the match with two service aces.

Katelyn Schwartz directed the Adams State attack with 49 assists. Kendra Swackenburg had 16 for FLC, while Delaney Scanlan chipped in 14 more assists for the Skyhawks.

Savannah Smith had a match-high 16 digs for the Grizzlies, while Allie Miller had 14 and Mariner finished with 10 for her double-double.

Three players finished with five blocks in the game: Adams State’s Grimsrud and Kamryn Lewis and Fort Lewis’ LeBlanc.

FLC will go for its second win of the conference schedule when it will try to upset Colorado Mesa (9-8. 7-2 RMAC) at 7 p.m. Friday.
