Strong trip for Fort Lewis College golfers

FLC men finish in middle of pack

It was a strong trip to New Mexico for the Fort Lewis College golf programs.

The men’s team finished in the middle of the 15-team pack at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference South Invitational at Paa-ko Ridge Golf Club with a total score of 74-over 938 after three rounds. That was good for seventh, 33 strokes behind champion UC-Colorado Springs, who was led by co-individual champion Colin Prater, who shot a 1-under 71 Tuesday to finish at 1 over. He tied Nathaniel Goddard of Colorado Christian.

The FLC men’s team was led by Matt Huntley, who shot 11 over through three rounds. After shooting even par in the first round, Huntley fired an 8-over 80 in the second round and 3-over 75 in the final round Tuesday. He finished in a tie for seventh overall.

FLC’s Dillon Washburn, played well enough Monday to overcome an 81 in the final round and still tie for 14th at 16 over.

Michael Thomas finished in a tie for 21st for the FLC men. Her shot 75 Tuesday to get to 18 over.

FLC’s Mitch Donley finished alone in 52nd at 29 over, and Ryan Tanner rounded out the squad at 44 over, good for a tie for 72nd.

The Skyhawks’ women played a strong tournament, led by Jessica Thulson.

Thulson finished alone in ninth place after shooting 76 Tuesday. That put her at 11 over after two rounds.

She helped the Skyhawks finish 13th out of 15 teams with a scored of 721, 145-over-par. Midwestern State won the women’s tournament at 30-over 606.

FLC’s Isabella Martinez finished in a tie for 50th at 31 over, Brooke Schultz finished in a three-way tie for 69th at 48 over; Lindsey Blythe was alone in 74th at 56 over; Lauren Trujillo took 75th and 58 over; and Judith Camacho finished 77th out of 79 golfers at 63 over.
