100 years ago: T.J. Owenby of “the Breen country” made his way across “the high waves of mud” that were abundant in that area to make a visit to Durango.

75 years ago: Motor fuel tax collections in February were “$171,305 less than a year ago,” a decline of 30 percent, State Auditor Bradly reported.

50 years ago: City Manager Robert Rank left for Chicago to attend an institute about how to use computers in local government. The 50-hour crash course was sponsored by the International City Managers Association, of which Rank was a member.

25 years ago: Wes and Tye Sprague of Cortez gave birth to triplets Cody, Eric and James at Mercy Medical Center. It was the first time in 13 years that triplets were born at the hospital.
