100 years ago: J.C. Keeton, freighter for the Marshall mill, delivered a walking beam, the length of which was described as the inspiration for a report that a skyscraper would be built in town, for shipment to the Mesa Verde Oil Co.
75 years ago: The Shamrock Club met at the home of Betty and Eileen Heintz. The meeting included inductions of new members, refreshments and planning for the next event.
50 years ago: Two Durango youths were “shaken up and slightly injured” in a motorcycle crash that occurred on “old U.S. 550” north of Durango. The two boys, who were riding together on a Honda motorcycle, were thrown from the bike after its front fork broke. The Honda “gouged up 50 feet of road pavement” before it turned over and stopped, and they took themselves to the Community Hospital for a checkup.
25 years ago: Durango Police Department reported that a man flagged down an officer in the 900 block of Camino del Rio and warned him of a conspiracy that would result in the end of the world.
