And the West is History

100 years ago: Police arrested Peter Phillips, a “formerly well-known citizen of Durango,” and charged him with “wife beating.” He pleaded not guilty and “was bound over in the sum of five hundred dollars to appear before the same court” at a later date.

75 years ago: Jack Lee said he and his crew of “two local girls” were working on small airplane parts. Larger parts would be made when the necessary steel was available.

50 years ago: Two children from Phoenix were injured after they “became excited” and ran through plate glass windows near the swimming pool at a Cortez motel. They were taken to the hospital and reported to be in good condition.

25 years ago: The Division of Wildlife reported that a tan-colored dog killed a fawn sometime during the afternoon.
