100 years ago: The “down coming train” from Silverton set fire “to the dry brush on the right-of-way back of Mercy hospital.” The fire department responded and no damage was done.

75 years ago: Registration for Colorado motorists to obtain basic gasoline rationing cards was postponed a week, which pushed back the registration date for Durango from Nov. 13 to Nov. 20, announced Superintendent E.E. Smiley.

50 years ago: Hector Garcia, a classical guitarist and artist-in-residence at University of New Mexico, performed a concert in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Fort Lewis College.

25 years ago: The vote to incorporate Pagosa Lakes as a separate town in Archuleta County failed for the second time in seven years. Votes against the motion totaled 457, versus the 169 who voted to create a new town.
