And the West is HIstory

100 years ago: “Durango Proves Best by Test. Our former townsman, A. Rex Molette, who established a law office in Pasadena, California, in November has found that conditions there do not compare favorably with the San Juan Basin, and he is returning home to take an active part in conducting the business of the law firm he represents. He will probably be in Durango tonight.”

75 years ago: “The Durango Demons, playing uninspired basketball, grubbed out a 22-9 victory over Bayfield High School at Smiley High gym Tuesday evening, after the Durango faculty had subdued a second squad, 15-12, in the preliminary.”

50 years ago: “Slight earth tremors spanning a 15-minute period from about 6:55 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. Saturday night were reported from a wide area in the basin, weather observer Malcom Dayton told the Herald.”

25 years ago: “Authorities this morning were investigating the plane crash near Mancos which killed a Durango man and his dog.”
