100 years ago: “With a big day at Ignacio Sunday, The Smelter plays Ignacio. A program of horse races have been arranged. All local fans should be there with bells on.”

75 years ago: “Durango student musical organizations under the direction of instructor Al Ruland turned a three-day contest trip to Pueblo Music Festival – Thursday, Friday and Saturday – into a rousing and successful good will tour. The Durango students carried away Division 1 ratings in all band and orchestra events entered.”

50 years ago: “The Democrats were out in full flower Saturday night when they gathered in St. Mark’s Parish Hall for the Jefferson-Jackson day dinner. Mark Hogan, the speaker, was interesting and enthusiastic and talked just long enough.”

25 years ago: “It’s official – members of the Colorado Army National Guard 928th Medical Company are scheduled to touch down Saturday in Colorado after five months of active duty in the Persian Gulf. The Durango Herald will publish a tribute to the returning guardsmen of the 928th Medical Co. Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.”
