100 years ago: Jose Berrago was tried and found guilty in Aztec District Court for second-degree murder after killing his cousin, Isobel Lobato, outside of Lobato, New Mexico. He was sentenced to 60 to 70 years at the state penitentiary in Santa Fe.
75 years ago: A hot-lunch project was started at the Marvel School with the return of Mrs. Turner as cook. Mrs. Turner rented rooms in Marvel from Mrs. Maestas, who was “comfortably located.”
50 years ago: Stores in Durango were sold out of snow shovels and had only a handful of waterproof overshoes in stock after seven consecutive days of snowfall dumped almost 43 inches on the city.
25 years ago: Manna Soup Kitchen started feeding the hungry at Sacred Heart Parish Church in time for the holidays after it had been closed since mid-November.
