The cornerstone was laid for the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, No. 507, in 1925 at Ninth Street and East Second Avenue. Durango Elks Lodge still uses the same building today, at 901 East Second Ave.

50 years ago: Jack Hawkins, the KVFC radio owner in Cortez, was in Rose Memorial hospital in Denver recuperating from a heart attack he suffered the week before.

25 years ago: Durango Police Department received a report of obscene pictures being left on two vehicles parked on Bacus Drive.
