100 years ago: The body of William Smith, 32, was found by searchers in the mountains about seven miles outside of Mancos. He died from exposure to the elements or pneumonia.

75 years ago: Fred Brinkers returned to Durango from Christmas holiday in Denver. Brinkers represented the Denver Equipment Co. for the mining establishments in the Southwest Colorado region.

50 Years Ago: Recent admissions to Mercy hospital include: Mabel Bingham and Opal Miller of Durango; Bernice Walton, William Rael, Terry Brown, William Abeyta and Alfred Olbert of Ignacio; Jewel LePlatt, Clyde Harrison and Mark Lindsey of Bayfield; and Dean Sipe of Aztec.

25 years ago: The La Plata County Commissioners, after being overly self-critical, considered that the past year may not have been all negative. They continued to reflect on their success in communicating more effectively and arguing less, which helped reduce stress levels in the workplace.
