100 years ago: Mrs. Gordon Birch and her two sons drove to Durango from their home in Cortez to visit friends for the day. Her husband remained in Cortez, occupied with work.

75 years ago: Several young men, two from Durango, two from Bayfield and one from Ignacio, departed Southwest Colorado for Denver to enlist in the Navy.

50 Years Ago: The Fort Lewis College Raiders men’s basketball team had to swallow loss number six for the season, after being “whipped” 87-79 by the Adams State College Indians.

25 years ago: 20-year-old Craig Anderson was transported to Mercy Medical Center by rescue workers after he fell 20 feet climbing X-Rock, located north of town. He landed on his feet, suffering back fractures that would eventually heal.
