100 years ago: A miner was killed at work in Silverton. He was “tramming ore” and entered the ore bin to loosen a rock that was blocking the chute, when the ore in the bin slid down and “covered him up.”
75 years ago: Ignacio received “truckload after truckload” of dirt for a “graveling project” on the upper end of Main Street.
50 years ago: In Cortez news, “one of three Mancos ranchers indicted by the Montezuma County Grand Jury for conspiracy and perjury” was announced to be free on bail, while two others, indicted on the same charges, remained in county jail.
25 years ago: Durango Police Department reported that “wild kittens” were found in La Plata County Courthouse, and one of them bit a social worker who was in the building. According to the report, the animals were impounded after the incident.
