100 years ago: After they attended a dance in Hesperus, “a party of Durango people” were driving home when “the lights of the machine went on the blink and while attempting to turn out to let a car pass their machine went into the ditch with the result that Bennie Clarke of North Durango and Mrs. Green are in the hospital, the former suffering from an injured ankle and the lady suffering with an arm that was fractured at the elbow and wrist.”

75 years ago: Junior and senior high school boys would give their annual gym demonstration at Smiley Junior High School. After the opening ceremonies, the performance would include “calisthenics, drills, mass tumbling, advanced tumbling, spring board, bar and special events.”

50 years ago: Kenneth George, a 21-year-old Holiday Inn employee who lived in Oxford, was reported to be in good condition at Mercy Hospital after he crashed his car and sustained a broken jaw and serious lacerations.
