The cornerstone was laid for the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, No. 507, in 1925 at Ninth Street and East Second Avenue. Durango Elks Lodge still uses the same building today, at 901 East Second Ave.

100 years ago: Professor Snyder from Fort Lewis College left after visiting “the Allison section on school matters.”

75 years ago: The Durango High School auditorium was announced as the location auditions would be held to give up-and-coming radio artists from the San Juan Basin a chance to make a name for themselves.

50 years ago: Bruce M. Kirkpatrick was approved as a deputy district attorney by the La Plata County commissioners.

25 years ago: A woman reported to Durango Police Department that about 10 men, one of whom threatened her, were living in a maroon Impala that had been parked for a week in the alley behind the east 400 block of Second Street. Police gave a warning to the man who threatened the woman.
