April 1, 10-10:45 a.m.: Stories in the Park. Join Durango Parks and Recreation and Durango Public Library for a free, family friendly, outdoor storytime and nature journaling adventure. Recommended for ages 3-7 with a favorite adult. These programs will be held at Santa Rita Park picnic shelter at 111 South Camino del Rio. April 8, 6-7 p.m.: DIY Bodycare. Making your own body care items is economical, environmentally friendly and fun. In this class, you’ll learn how to make your own bath salts and deodorant and you’ll go home with a customized jar of both. Space is limited, register in advance.
April 9, 6:15-7:45 p.m.: Writers & Scribblers Writing Group. W&S is a group for writers of all kinds to learn, practice and share the art and craft of writing. Our main purpose is to try to help each other through the maze of things you must do as writers – from writing to editing to publishing and marketing your books, short stories, essays or anything else. Discussion topics will vary and sometimes repeat depending on the needs of the members at the time.
April 10, 4-5:30 p.m.: Crafternoons: Let’s make agamographs! An agamograph, also known as a lenticular image, is art that uses optical illusion to create changes when you look at it from different angles. We welcome you to bring photographs or other prints you’d like to turn into an agamograph or you can create your own images or use images we’ll provide. For adults only.
April 12 and 26, 1-3 p.m.: Yarn Meetup. Calling knitters, crocheters and fiber artists of all ages and levels. Come work on your current project in an informal group setting.
April 15, noon-1:30 p.m.: Non-Traditional Book Club: Nature Writing. Join us at Turtle Lake Refuge (848 East Third Ave.) for a “nontraditional” book club, where the discussion is based on a genre/topic rather than a specific book. There’s no required reading for these “nontraditional” book clubs, just a topic/genre to discuss and plenty of delicious snacks to enjoy. This month, we’ll be chatting about writing that focuses on the natural world. Preregistration is required.
April 17, 6-7 p.m.: Birdwatching: A window into the world around you. Birds have a special connection with their environment. Melissa May from Mountain Studies Institute will talk about how identifying birds can give you clues about the changing seasons and the local habitats. Preregistration is required.
April 26, 10-11:15 a.m.: Birth Partner Workshop. With local doula Abbie Downing. This 75-minute workshop for expecting couples will cover all the ways to move and physically engage with your partner during labor to ease pain, increase oxytocin hormone and feel in control of the process. Note: Register only one person per pair. Preregistration is required.
April 29, 4-5:30 p.m.: Death Café. A group-directed discussion of death; it is not a grief support group. Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. Facilitated by Lola Montano, local hospice nurse and trained death doula.

Bears Ears: Landscape of Refuge & Resistance. Significant for its cultural heritage, geologic features, natural resources and cultural sites, Bears Ears National Monument is a bellwether for public land issues in the American West. Andrew Gulliford, professor of history at Fort Lewis College, will describe the national monument’s significance to five Native tribes and read passages from his book. Tuesday, April 8 at 6 p.m.

Full Body Fit Class: Monday-Thursday, 8:15-9 a.m. Work out using your own body weight or light hand weights to work all body parts. The free classes are always similar in style but use different moves to keep it fun and fresh. You’ll need a yoga mat and light hand weights. If you don’t have them, there are extras that can be used. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.
Yoga For All: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:15-10:15 a.m. In this informal, free meetup, we create awareness and harmony between the mind and body that allows us to remove stress and anxiety. We use our breath to move deeper into our body while warming, lengthening and strengthening our muscles. All you need is a yoga mat and a water bottle. Some yoga tools such as blocks, a blanket and a strap are encouraged.

Andrew Gulliford, a professor of history of Fort Lewis College, synthesizes 11,000 years of the region’s human and environmental history to illuminate what’s truly at stake in this conflict.

Discover the timeless techniques of coiling and pinching as you create beautiful, functional and decorative pottery pieces, taught by Dancing Spirit Center for the Arts. In this class, you’ll learn how to use coils to build unique vessels and the pinch pot technique to create simple but expressive bowls, cups and more. April 11 and 25, 4-5:30 p.m.: Beginning Mahjong Meetup. Mahjong is a tile-based table-top game developed in 19th century China. Pine River Library is one of many groups in 79 countries across the world that host Death Cafés, a time and place where people come to share food, drink tea or coffee, and discuss death openly and honestly. April 26, 1 p.m.: Medical Aid in Dying: Colorado Options & Updates. Medical aid in dying is a medical practice that allows a terminally ill, mentally capable adult with a prognosis of six months or less to live to request a prescription for medication that the person may decide to self-administer to end their life in a peaceful manner. MAID is legal in 10 states and the District of Columbia. In 2016, Colorado voters approved Proposition 106, the Colorado End of Life Options Act, which allows eligible patients to access MAID. Learn about the option and discuss medical aid in dying with Dr. Erin Clarkinson.

Make Your Own: Crepes: Tuesday, April 15 at 4:30 p.m. A hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to make your own crepes from scratch. We will start by preparing the batter and then cook the crepes in a crepe maker. Once they’re ready, patrons can fill their crepes with a variety of sweet toppings.
Estate Planning 101: Monday, April 21 at 6 p.m. Learn the essentials of estate planning, including the differences between a will and a trust; how to pass assets to loved ones tax-free; and ways to create a lasting legacy for your family. Hosted by Karina Guerrero of Foundational Wealth Partners.
Earth Day Celebration: Tuesday, April 22 at 1 p.m. The Sierra Club is excited to partner with ICL and IHS students for an engaging event that will feature dynamic demonstrations and informative displays focused on important Earth Day topics.
