Archaeological Society hosts presentation

The San Juan Archaeological Society will meet in person and on Zoom at 7 p.m. July 12 at Center of Southwest Studies Lyceum Room, Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive. A premeeting social will be held in the reception area at 6:30 p.m.

After a brief business meeting “Sand, Stone and Songs: Ancient lessons from a Living Landscape” will be presented by Vincent MacMillan, supervisory archaeologist at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.

MacMillan began his archaeological career in 1992 at the National Park Service Midwest Archaeological Center, where he conducted fieldwork throughout the Rockies, Great Plains and the Midwest. He currently lives in Dolores, where he has lived for the past 23 years, working as an archaeologist for Mesa Verde National Park, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. He has been the lead archaeologist for Canyons of the Ancients National Monument since 2011.

The meeting is open to the public.
