We have been told that the Lake Nighthorse area will have hiking trails. Now that the city will be annexing Lake Nighthorse, I emailed the city planning department asking how much land the city will annex.
From the map city planner Vicki Vandegrift sent me, you can see the city will only annex the northeast shore of the lake. They are not annexing any land between county roads 141 and 210. The “no trespassing” signs will stay up.
There really are no hiking trails within the annexed area. The lake itself will be Durango “property,” but if you step out of your boat you will most likely be on federal property. This annexed area will be an island of Durango separate from the rest of the city.
