Why start a war now?

Why did the would-be king decide to begin a war with Iran? It’s a question many people are asking. Trump’s impaired ego and desire for more money seem to dominate his decisions, not the needs of Americans.

Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu appears to own Trump. When he says jump, Trump does. Trump also shows an unabated desire to please the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. Both leaders want the destruction of Iran but appear unwilling to act alone. Why this blind loyalty by Trump? Money? Vast waterfront development in Gaza? A huge financial pipeline open to him personally from the Saudis?

Perhaps he also wants to prove he is a “manly man” by flexing his flabby muscles through a war fought by real – and very young – troops. When called to serve in Vietnam, he avoided the draft at least five times and was eventually excused because of bone spurs (and his father’s money), yet today he plays golf and tennis and claims to have been a near-professional baseball player.

Is this also an attempt to deflect attention from his name appearing in the Epstein files and from the harsh tactics of his personal enforcement forces, ICE and Border Patrol?

War should never be a political tool. Yet it may be exactly that – a way to cling to power. If Republicans lose the November midterm elections, Trump may claim a national emergency and attempt to suspend normal democratic processes. If that happens, impeachment would become impossible.
