Maria’s Bookshop to host book release

Maria’s Bookshop will host a Book Release Celebration for the new Close to Heaven: 50 Years of Purgatory book from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at 960 Main Ave.

The new book can be purchased for $10 off the list price. There also will be a drawing for several items, including four lift tickets to Purgatory Resort with no blackout dates. Entries can be filled out during the 5 to 7 p.m. event. The drawing will be at 7 p.m.

Best Brass Christmas to be held Saturday

3rd Ave. Arts will present “The Best Brass of Christmas” at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.

Eleven brass players will perform Christmas music. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and children, and are available at 3rdAveArts.org and, if space is available, at the door.

DHS grad Noah Volz to host book launch

Durango High School graduate Noah Volz will host a book launch for his first book New Year Re-Solution: A 14-Day Ayurvedic Program to Lose Weight and Feel Your Best at 9 a.m. Dec. 22 at Yoga Durango, 1140 Main Ave.

Sorrel Sky Gallery announces these upcoming events:

The fifth annual Artists Workshop Series, with eight intensive weekend workshops, will be offered. Workshops will include offerings by master artists in a variety of media and techniques designed for people new to art making as well as skilled artists. Workshops are conducted in a small group environment. There will be six workshops through April. The workshop series will begin on Feb. 5, 6 and 7 with Painting Animals with Emotion taught by animal portraitist Linda St. Clair, who will offer instruction in value, color and brushwork. The gallery will host a trunk show featuring the jewelry by Navajo artist and designer Artie Yellowhorse from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 4. Yellowhorse is a third-generation Navajo jewelry artist from the Towering House Clan specializing in fine handcrafted silver and stone jewelry.

Farmington art exhibit seeking artists

People’s Choice – an art exhibit sponsored by the Farmington Downtown Association and the nonprofit Three Rivers Art Center – is issuing a Call for Artists.

Entries will be accepted through Feb. 13. The entry fee is $25. The event will take place from March 19 to April 8. Artists will be accepted on a first-entered basis until venues are full. The event will culminate at the April 8 Downtown Art Walk. The public will vote for its favorite piece. Public vote winners will receive cash awards of up to $750, $500 and $250. Juried awards of $750, $500 and $250 have been added to this year’s event. Cortez mixed media artist Susan Reed will view all the artwork and make a selection for the juried awards.
