Wednesdays 3-5 p.m.: Chess Club. Drop-in chess games for ages 7-15. All skill levels are welcome. Bring your own set or use one of ours.

Thursdays 10:30-11 a.m.: Family Storytime. Stories, songs, rhymes and other fun activities for children ages 0-5 and their parents and caregivers.

Fridays 10:30-11 a.m.: Baby Storytime. For infants to 18 months. Music, stories, fingerplays, counting rhymes and playtime. Babies should bring their parents or caregivers.

Library of Things

Collection is made up of more than 60 “things” that are useful, entertaining, financially beneficial and educational and includes items like a metal detector, Instant Pot, leather working kit, yard games, ice cream maker, sewing machine and more. The Pine River Library of Things is finally ready for its ribbon-cutting event from 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Babies/Toddlers

Hopper’s Storytime: Thursdays 11-11:30 a.m. Join us weekly to read books, meet new friends, and make a craft together.

Kids

Join us weekly to explore new interests, delve into the wonders of learning science and create artistic masterpieces.

STEAM Power Hour (Grades 3-5): Mondays, 4-5 p.m.

Junior STEAM Power Hour (Grades K-2): Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m.

Teens

Teen Free Play: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-5 p.m. Tabletop games, PlayStation, Oculus, food and fun.

Weekly Programs

Full Body Fit Class: Monday-Thursday, 8:15-8:50 a.m. Workout using your own body weight or light hand weights to work all of the body parts. The free classes are always similar in style but always different moves. You’ll need a yoga mat and light hand weights. If you don’t have them, there are extras that can be used. All ages and fitness levels.

Friends of the Library Shed Book Sale: Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m.: Weekly popup book sale.

Open Art Studio: Thursdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: All mediums. All ages. Work on your projects in a group setting.

Community Knitting and Crochet Group: Sundays, 2-4 p.m.: All are welcome. Whether you have been knitting and/or crocheting for years or you would like to learn, we are happy to have you and will do our best to help you get started.

Aug. 7, 6-8 p.m.: WRITING OUR LIVES: A Generative Memoir/Poetry Writing Workshop: Pam Uschuk and William Root share their hands-on workshop exploring ways of writing memoir using prose and poetry techniques.

Aug. 8, 6-8 p.m.: The Writing and Publishing Journey: Professor Mark Curran will tell stories of the creation and publishing of his 41 books.

Aug. 8, 10-11 a.m.: Card Making at the Pine River Senior Center: Create two beautiful handmade cards.

Aug. 9, 6-7:30 p.m.: BookMarks Book Club: Open to all adult. The Library provides the books, the discussion leader and a place to meet. Stop by the front desk to check out your copy of this month’s title “This Tender Land,” by William Kent Krueger.

Aug. 15, 1-2:30 p.m.: Death Café: A time and place where people come to share food, drink tea or coffee, and discuss death openly and honestly. The aim is to increase awareness about death in order to help people make the most of their (finite) lives.

Aug. 17, 11 a.m.-Noon: Friends of The Library Meeting: Quarterly meetings are held in August, November, February and May.

Aug. 18, 5-6 p.m.: Library of Things Ribbon-Cutting: Explore and try out the items that make up this unique collection.

Aug. 24, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Spanish Conversation: Practice your Spanish in an informal setting. All ages and language levels welcome.

Aug. 25, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Pine River Senior Center Outreach: Books and DVDs available for check out, delivered to the Senior Center with an extended loan period (four weeks, rather than the standard one to three weeks).

We Are Water Opening Day: Wednesday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m.: Grand opening of the exhibit. Family friendly learning, hands-on activities, fun exhibit games and stories about what water means to communities in the Southwest.Learn about water from organizations based in the community.

Repair Café: Thursday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m.: Bring your broken items and let’s see if we can help you fix them. Don’t have a broken device but want to learn repair techniques? You’re quite welcome. Snacks and refreshments for all.

Family Fun Night: Thursday, Aug. 10 at 5:30 p.m.: Dinner for everyone. Sandwiches, vegetables, drinks and Jell-O. Recipes for adults, crafts, water activity for children. Register in advance: 563-9287.

Summer Music Series: Friday, Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m.: Listen to music, enjoy food from food trucks and vendors. Support the Friends of the Ignacio Community library by visiting its book sale. Special guests Los Mitotitos. Bring your own chair. Free.

Ongoing Events

Let’s Play A Game at Sunnyside, Thursdays, beginning at 10:30 a.m. A weekly board game meetup for all ages. Last summer program will be Aug. 17. Watch for changes to this program beginning in September.

Knitting Meetup at Sunnyside, Fridays at 3 p.m. Bring knitting or other portable craft project.

Powerhouse Pass Program, Sunnyside Library and Fort Lewis Mesa Library have Powerhouse Passes available for check out at each library. The pass will allow you and your immediate family free entry to the Powerhouse Science Center. Passes can be checked out on an adult library card for one week.

Check Out State Parks Program, Fort Lewis and Sunnyside Libraries have “Check Out State Parks” backpacks available for check out. Each pack includes a pass for free entry to Colorado state parks, binoculars, wildlife viewing guides and park information. The pack can be checked out on an adult library card for one week.
