The Fort Lewis women’s basketball team is without two of its seven returning players from last season. Avery Evans and Sydney Bevington are no longer on the roster, FLC Associate Athletic Director Angela Roberts confirmed.
Evans and Bevington were part of a large roster of 20 players in FLC women’s basketball head coach Lauren Zuniga’s first season.
“They obviously decided to part ways with the team, and we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors,” Zuniga said. “We’re so grateful for their time spent with us and the time that they spent putting into Skyhawk women's basketball. They felt that they needed to just focus on academics and themselves. So we're in full support of that.”
Bevington, a senior from Arvada, Colorado, played in all four games so far this season off the bench as a key presence inside for the Skyhawks. She’s eighth in minutes with 15.5 minutes per game, fifth in scoring with 5.8 points per game and second in rebounding with 5.3 rebounds per game.
The 6-foot-1 guard only played in six games last season due to a foot injury. When she was out there last season, Bevington averaged 5.7 ppg and 8.7 rpg for previous head coach Taylor Harris.
Before FLC, Bevington started her college career at Santa Clara University in 2021-2022 before transferring to Idaho State University in 2022-2023.
Evans, a senior from Clovis, California, struggled to see the floor this season. She played in two of four Division II games and averaged 7.5 minutes per game, 1.0 ppg and 0.5 rpg.
The 5-foot-10-inch guard played in all 28 games last season and started in 26. She was second on the team with 30.8 minutes per game, sixth with 7.0 ppg and second on the team with 1.6 assists per game.
In 2022-2023 as a sophomore, Evans averaged 8.8 ppg in 30.2 mpg in 25 games played. Before FLC, Evans played for two years at Fresno City College.
FLC is 1-3 overall and plays Northern New Mexico on Saturday.
