Baseball to golf: Wind, wind, please go away

I was traveling back to Durango last Saturday after calling two stellar Bayfield High School baseball games in Monte Vista.

As I was rolling through Pagosa Springs, I saw two brave souls battling the winds as they were trying to line up their putts on the Pagosa Golf Course. It took everything they had not to get knocked down by those winds, which were on the perimeter of a spring snowstorm I just went through over Wolf Creek.

Hurray for the moisture, but can we tone down the winds please?

I thought the winds were privileged for the month of March, then April showers and May flowers. So much for the rhythm and reasoning.

Just two days ago, the eastern slope was clobbered by a sizeable snowstorm. Can the Denver dump trucks back up into our yard with some of that snow, just in the mountains?

Remember, it is all downhill from there. I guess we have to carry those large rubber bands to keep our golf hats on.

We have one postponement of an event which was to take place Saturday: The UC Timberview Realty Match Play Qualification has been postponed to a later date.

Check with the Hillcrest Golf Club Pro Shop for the rescheduled date.

Even though it’s not official, a Ladies Play Day will be held May 1 at Dalton Ranch Golf Club, followed by a Mountain Middle School tournament May 3. The next regularly scheduled event at DRGC will be a Couples Tournament on May 5, so check with the pro shop for all the details.

Hillcrest will open May tournament action May 4-5 with the iCracked Durango Two-Person Scramble. There is $500 in added prize purse and an entry fee of $50 per person.

You can pick your own partner as long as the handicap spread between partners is no greater than 8. The Championship Flight is the exception.

There will be gross and net prizes, and tee times will start at 8 a.m. both days.

Call Hillcrest at 247-1499 for more information.

There are a lot of new tournament sponsors on this year’s calendar; pick up a copy of the tournament schedule, and be sure to thank those sponsors for their tournament involvement.
