Bayfield baseball takes two from Centauri

Sweep keeps Wolverines unbeaten in league

The Bayfield High School baseball team went on the road Friday and took two games in a league matchup with Centauri.

The Wolverines (9-2, 4-0 3A/2A Intermountain League) picked up wins of 13-6 and 12-9.

In the 13-6 win, BHS went down 6-2 after two innings but regained a lead of 7-6 in the sixth before scoring six times in the seventh.

Devin Avery was the winning pitcher in five innings of relief. He allowed three hits, hit one batter and struck out five without surrendering a run.

Noah Chamblee went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs batted in and three runs scored. He also walked one and was hit by a pitch. Austin Twedt went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored, and Isaac Ross was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

In the Game 2 victory, Jackson Queen got the win for the Wolverines. He went five innings on the mound, as he allowed four runs – two earned. He struck out five and walked one. Caden Wood got a two-inning save in relief, as he allowed four runs but none earned on two hits. He struck out three.

BHS belted three homers. Chamblee was 4-for-5 with four RBIs and a run scored on his homer. Ross went 3-for-5 with a homer, four runs and two RBIs. Nic Twedt hit the other round-tripper, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. He also had a triple and was hit by a pitch.

Also for BHS, Lance Mazur was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, and Cade Carlson was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored.

The win kept BHS as the lone undefeated team in the league standings, as Almosa sits at 2-1.

Next for BHS is a home doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Pagosa Springs (4-5, 2-1 IML)
