Bayfield girls soccer blows by Center

Center can’t get pressure on Wolverines

The wind bothered the Bayfield High School girls soccer team Wednesday at Center.

The Vikings? Not so much.

BHS snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory.

“It was crazy conditions (Wednesday) – 33 miles per hour wind straight sideways,” BHS head coach Jen Zelinski said.

Maddy Duran and Meaghan Mooney scored for the Wolverines.

Duran blasted a long shot to the far post with the keeper off her line, and Mooney finished an Andrea Zelinski assist from close range on the end of a through ball.

“We came out with a lot of intensity,” coach Zelinski said. “We had a team meeting last week after we lost to Pagosa, and we hashed things out. We came out pumped. I can’t ask for much more than that.”

A strong defensive effort never hurts, though.

Freshman goalie Savannah Kaufmann only needed to make one save, as Center (2-4, 1-1 3A Region 5) didn’t cross the half line often.

BHS (3-2, 3-2 Region 5) next will return home to host Pine River rival Ignacio at 4 p.m. Friday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
