A Bayfield man who walked away from his work-release program last week was arrested Monday morning, according to La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Bender.

Timothy Sobley, 48, was serving a six-month sentence at the La Plata County Jail for several misdemeanor convictions, including drunken driving, driving under restraint and violation of bail conditions.

He also has pending domestic-violence charges and an active warrant in Arizona.

Sobley was participating in a community service program on Thursday at the Durango Food Bank at 194 Bodo Drive when he walked away, Bender said in a news release.

Bender said Sobley made threatening phone calls on Sunday night to his parents, who left their house on County Road 523 and went to a safe location.

“When they returned to their house for additional belongings Monday morning, they feared their son might be in the home and called sheriff’s deputies, who found Sobley hiding under a bed,” Bender said.

Bender said Sobley was taken into custody without incident, and he will remain in La Plata County Jail for the remainder of his sentence. He’s also being held on a $20,000 bond on suspicion of escape, Bender said.
