Bayfield volleyball faces larger competition, goes 2-2

Playing a bunch of schools much bigger than their’s the Bayfield Wolverines volleyball team held its ground Saturday.

Competing in Palmer Ridge’s tournament, the Wolverines went 2-2 overall with wins against Horizon and Mullen and losses to Coronado and Montrose.

“I’m very happy with the performance,” BHS head coach Terene Foutz said. “Last year, we went 3-1, and 2-2 this year is good. It was a great opportunity for us to work some things out before regionals.”

BHS beat Horizon 25-14, 25-14 and Mullen 25-14, 25-16, 25-16. It lose to Coronado 25-19, 25-22 and to Montrose 25-15, 25-15, 27-25.

The Wolverines didn’t win their league this year and expect to go on the road for the regional round of the state tournament with a final record of 12-11 overall.

“It’s up to the seeding gods now,” Foutz said. “We probably won’t be home, but we’re not expecting to be, either. We’ve been on the road so much this year that it doesn’t matter. We’ve been road-driven this season and gone the whole time, so we’re ready.”
