The 2020 Beef Cattle Symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in Pagosa Springs.
Speakers and topics Feb. 11 will include John Wenzel with New Mexico State University, who will discuss antibiotic use in cow/calf operations; Frank Garry with Colorado State University Extension, who will discuss infectious disease prevention in cattle herds with a focus on Johne’s Disease; Beth Lashell with Fort Lewis College, who will discuss healthy selection practices; Zach Riley with Colorado Farm Bureau, who will discuss trade commodity; CJ Mucklow with CSU Extension, who will discuss conservation easements; Jerry Archuleta and Shaan Bliss with the National Resources Conservation Service, who will discuss healthy grass management ; Ethan Proud with Archuleta County Weed and Pest, who will discuss poisonous plants for livestock; and Jen Livsey with EastCo Group, who will discuss pasture/drought insurance.
Financial management strategies will be presented Feb. 12 by Jenny Beiermann, R. Brent Young and Norm Dalsted. They will address risk management, business planning, enterprise budgeting, record keeping, interpretation of financial statements and farm financial software.
Workshop fees are $25 for the first day, $15 for the second day or $35 for both days.
Prices include lunch and materials. No lunch or materials are guaranteed for registrations received after Feb. 7.
