I recently read Sen. Michael Bennet’s press release regarding his suggestions for ICE. While I applaud a few of them, the idea of retraining ICE agents is fanciful, to put it mildly.
This iteration of ICE cannot be reformed, and there will not be accountability. Trump will wink, nod and agree, and then not follow through; it’s not in his DNA. The notion of reining in ICE agents sounds like a talking point from meek Beltway consultants who can’t see the forest for the trees.
I want our elected Democrats in Washington, D.C., to stop taking that “advice” and instead believe their own eyes. See the thousands of us in the streets bearing witness to the violent stops, abductions, shootings and deaths of Americans at the hands of this agency. This is untenable. Dismantle it and start anew.
