I am writing to support Michael Bennet for the next governor of Colorado. He delivers results. I met Michael after he became a U.S. senator over 17 years ago. Since then, he has come to this county time after time to show up, listen and then get things done. I was the facilitator on a multiyear endeavor that led to the 2015 Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act. Bennet was there every step of the way, supporting a work group of over 45 interests. He carried the bill that was the result of our efforts, the Hermosa Creek Wilderness and Special Management Area, which permanently protected over 100,000 acres.
Since 2021, he has helped secure $198.2 million in federal funding for tangible things such as the Elmore’s to Dry Creek Highway 160 project; investments in Bayfield’s wastewater treatment plant and future childcare capacity there; upgrades at the Durango-La Plata County Airport; water and drought resilience projects; renewable energy projects, including for both the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and Southern Ute Indian Tribe; and $2 million for the Residences of Durango, an affordable housing project that especially helps those in the service industries.
He is a fierce advocate for public lands, families and children, and has an impressive track record to prove his campaign promises. He will not leave rural counties behind. I urge a vote for Michael Bennet for governor.
