Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend for the Durango area include sporting events for all ages with the 2018 PickleMixer pickle-ball tournament and Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Competition.

The 2018 PickleMixer will be held Saturday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Player check-in starts at 9 a.m., a meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. and the first games will start at 9:45 a.m. in the gymnasium.

Four skill levels of play will be offered: novice, low-intermediate, high-intermediate and advanced. Games are first to 11 points with a 14-minute time limit.

Day-of-event registrations are not available and space is limited.

Durango Elks Lodge will host the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Competition on Saturday at Escalante Middle School, 141 Baker Lane.

Doors open at 10 a.m., and the contest starts at 11 a.m.

The program is free and open to boys and girls 8 to 13 years old.

Winning contestants at the local level can advance through district, state, regional and national competitions. A boy and a girl from each district will be named winner during the national competition.
