Bobcats meow at Screaming Eagle

Paonia’s Screaming Eagle tournament Saturday gave the Ignacio High School wrestling team an idea of where it stacks up in its region.

IHS placed six of its wrestlers at the meet and saw every Bobcat win at least one match.

Stocker Robbins went 3-2 to claim sixth place at 106 pounds.

Dalton Mickey did not place at 120 pounds after he went 1-2.

Ethan Appenzeller went 2-2 in the 126-pound weight class and did not place.

Lorenzo Peña finished fifth at 138 pounds at 3-1.

Isaac Peña registered the Bobcats’ best finish of the day in second at 145 pounds after going 2-1.

Miguel Perez took fifth place at 152 pounds after going 3-2.

Blaine Mickey went 3-2 to finish sixth at 170 pounds.

Josh Gallegos finished in sixth place at 220 pounds after he went 3-2.

The Bobcats will host Bayfield High School in a dual at 6 p.m. Friday, then will host their annual Butch Melton Invitational, including the Wolverines, on Saturday.

“We’re going to continue training so we can hopefully perform well at our tournament and regionals,” IHS rookie head coach Cody Haga said. “That’s what we’re working for all year.”
