The race for the Ignacio High School girls soccer scoring lead is heating up.
Both Tristan Boone and Cheyenne Cook scored their second goals of the season in a 6-2 loss at Center on Friday.
IHS (0-10, 0-7 3A Region 5) scored twice for the first time since a 7-2 loss last April 16 at Pagosa Springs.
“That was one of our goals (Friday),” IHS head coach Oscar Cosio said. “I told them one goal wasn’t going to be enough.”
The Bobcats just couldn’t keep up with Center (5-5-2, 4-4-1 Region 5) with only 11 players.
“We plugged along,” Cosio said. “It’s hard to play 80 minutes with just 11 girls.”
IHS still has one game left to pick up a win, but that will be a tall order against Alamosa, which is first place in the league.
The Bobcats will meet the Mean Moose at 11 a.m. Saturday in Ignacio.
“I’m hoping that the girls, as a whole, come out and lay it all out,” Cosio said. “We’ll try to pull off a W for these seniors.”
