Canyons of the Ancients releases new promotional video

Canyon of the Ancients offers many ruins to view like this one in Sand Canyon.

Canyons of the Ancients National Monument has released a new promotional video on YouTube.

The eight-minute film is narrated by monument manager Marietta Eaton and features recreational opportunities and the ancient history preserved in 9,300 archaeological sites. Zuni tribal members discuss their ancestral connection to the monument and backpackers talk about the exploration opportunities on the mesas and canyons. Balancing multiple uses is highlighted as well including recreation, archaeology, oil and gas development and livestock grazing.

The video explains that Canyons of the Ancients is off the beaten path, an “outdoor museum” offering a primitive exploration experience. Artifacts, rock art, middens and cliff dwellings tell a profound story, giving visitors a glimpse of what ancient life was like there. It is a sacred place and a source of pride for Native American communities in the area.
