CDOT created a dangerous intersection when it placed the rusty pedestrian bridge over the Animas River and completely obscured the view of oncoming traffic at the Roosa Avenue/U.S. Highway 160 west intersection. Obviously, CDOT could not admit the blunder, because it would have had to move the bridge 20 to 30 feet north, where it should have been placed originally.
In its latest folly, CDOT will be installing a concrete island on U.S. Highway 160 west, completely eliminating left turns off of Roosa Drive. The reasoning? To reduce the increased traffic snarls and collisions at that intersection. Gee! I wonder why the increase?
It appears CDOT’s bag of blunders isn’t even half full. Three quick ones that come to mind: the pedestrian bridge, the infamous mega-million dollar “Bridge to Nowhere” and the “shoot the gap” flashing amber turn arrows on a 55 mph highway. Can’t wait to see what comes next! P.S. I don’t get the green places and the narrowed traffic lanes. How about some blue areas and a few pink ones for the ladies?
