More than 750 fifth-grade students from 15 schools across Southwestern Colorado will participate in the Children's Water Festival from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 at Fort Lewis College. The Water Festival is sponsored by the Southwestern Water Conservation District. It aims to educate fifth grade students about water issues, the importance of this natural resource, and how they can help to protect it.
Nearly 12,000 students have experienced the festival since its inception 21 years ago. Classes rotate to several interactive, 20-minute water-related presentations throughout the day. This year there will be 30 different presentations by local water professionals. Sessions are both outside and inside.
Popular activities include the "Bucket Brigade" in the northeast parking lot at Fort Lewis and the "Water Wizard" trivia competition in Noble Hall, Room 130.
The event would not be possible without more than 100 dedicated presenters and volunteers, as well as event coordination provided by the Water Information Program. For information call 247-1302.
