City announces parking restrictions, street closures and shuttles for Friday’s Snowdown parade

The Purgatory Resort float leads the Snowdown Light Parade down Main Avenue on Feb. 2, 2018. Purgatory Resort is the sponsor of this year’s Light Parade.

Snowdown’s Get Your Comic On! Light Parade will begin with a single firework about 6 p.m. (or dusk) Friday on Main Avenue.

Parking along the parade route and staging areas will be restricted beginning at 1:30 p.m. Friday. There will be marked signs for no-parking areas.

All traffic along the parade route and staging areas will be detoured.

Street closures and traffic restrictions will include:

Fifth Street from Main Avenue to Park Elementary School, beginning at 1:30 p.m.Traffic along the parade route on Main Avenue, from Fifth to 13th streets, will not be permitted beginning at 2:30 p.m.All vehicles parked in private lots adjacent to street closures should vacate before 3 p.m. College Drive will remain open to through-traffic only (no turns onto Main Avenue will be allowed) until 5:30 p.m.To ease congestion and help with transportation, the city will provide a free shuttle from the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave., to the Transit Center, 250 W. Eighth St. The shuttle will begin at 5 p.m. and run every 15 minutes. It will end at 8 p.m.

The Main Avenue trolley will also be free beginning at 3 p.m. The trolley will arrive at stops along Main Avenue every 20 minutes. The last free trolley will depart downtown at 8:40 p.m.
