For some, this is old news. But I thought it deserved at least one more look.

Even though he finished tied for 18th place, Durango’s Devin Schreiner, son of Kip and Tammy Schreiner, put a huge scare into the recent Colorado Open field on the par-71 Green Valley Ranch Golf Club on July 24-27 in Denver.

The 26-year old, third-year professional, who played for Durango High School and Fort Lewis College, led the event after 36 holes with a stellar 12-under par 130. The rest of the field reeled him in during the final two days, but what an impact he made on the event.

And, although they missed the cut, fellow Durangoan Keenan Holt was in this prestigious field, along with Micah Rudosky, the head professional at Conquistador Golf Club in Cortez, and his son Jakob Rudosky. The latter was one of a handful of amateurs in the field thus making for the rare father/son appearance.

This ofttimes forgotten corner of the state made some big noise in the big city.
