Since the weather has taken a decided about-face and it now feels like golfing season, it is time to get serious about your game, and what better way to do that then getting into tournament play.

We begin with the Mercury-Two Person Scramble on Saturday and Sunday at the Hillcrest Golf Club. This event was pushed back one week to allow the aerated greens to heal and be ready for some real tag-team scrambling.

You can choose your own partner with the stipulation that the handicap spread between partners is no greater than 8 strokes. This handicap spread differential is waived in the Championship Flight only. Gross and net prizes will be awarded in all flights, and tee times will begin both days at 8 a.m.

There is $500 in added prize purse and an entry fee of $50 per person.

I will have the results of the top-three place winners (gross and net) in all flights in next week’s column.

One of the missing links, so to speak, so far this season is the updated Four Corners golf tournament schedule. This is a great tool to keep up with all the upcoming competition at the nine participating courses in the area. The link to this information, however, tells us to look forward to the 2014 calendar, but the season already is nearly six weeks old and there remains no updated schedule. It seems I was the only person to post a comment about the whereabouts of this year’s calendar on the website.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club will have its first official Ladies Day tournament and spring meeting May 14. This is your chance to get acquainted with new golfers to our area and renew friendships from last season.

Then, two days later May 16, comes the annual Durango Foundation for Educational Excellence Tournament, with an entry limit of 100 golfers and a shotgun start of 9 a.m.

The Dalton Ranch Golf Club Women’s Association held an unofficial day of golf, and the scramble played out as such:

If you are golfers, then you already know about the First Tee Program which introduces our youth to the world of golf. To this end, the inaugural Spring Fling tournament will be held May 17-18 at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Aztec to benefit the First Tee program (soon to be First Tee of the 4 Corners).

The format has changed this season and so has the reduced entry fee. The format is two-person (two men or two women), with each team playing five nine-hole matches within each flight. There will be three matches Saturday and two matches Sunday, with points awarded on each hole. The cost is $200 per team, and there will be a shootout after the match action.
