If you were like me, I held my tongue after the swirling rain, snow and winds from last weekend.
As we all know, the moisture, as infrequent as it has been this last winter, was a welcome sight as I returned from broadcasting Bayfield Wolverines’ baseball coverage in Pagosa Springs last Saturday.
Earlier, on the way to Pagosa Springs, I saw the sprinklers hitting the green closest to the highway at the Pines course. I chuckled, as I am prone to do heading back to Durango in a heavy snowstorm, that the Pines course received an extra kick of moisture that day.
Later that evening, downtown Durango glistened with similar precipitation which undoubtedly made its way to our local courses, as well.
Now we have to deal with the winds, which, in some respects, reverse the effects of the weekend storms.
What’s a golfer to do?
This week I want to focus on our women of golf as they get ready for the upcoming season at our area courses. Last week I told you about the Hillcrest Women’s Golf Association opening-night dinner, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Hillcrest Golf Club clubhouse dining room.
I must emphasize that membership dues have been reduced to just $20 this season, which will be discussed at the dinner Monday night. The cost of the dinner is just $9.

The first HWGA Tuesday Ladies Day event is Tuesday.
The first official Ladies Day and Spring Meeting for the Dalton Ranch Women’s Golf Association will be May 14. As a member of the DRWGA, you are eligible for Team Play – a two-person match-play partnership with full handicaps. Eight players are needed for each event this season, with the first Team Play of the season at Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez on May 15.

For all area lady golfers, the 4th annual Green Chili Ladies Classic is May 8 at the Hidden Valley Golf Club in Aztec. The format is individual stroke play in flights with gross and net winners in each flight. The cost is $60 per player, which includes golf, lunch and prizes.
The entry deadline is Monday, so call the Hidden Valley Golf Pro Shop at 505-334-3248 to get in on the fun.
The first Dalton Ranch Golf Club Couples Tournament of the season will be held Sunday. The field is limited to the first 48 players.

A side note, if you did not catch my information last week that the Mercury Two-Person Scramble, which originally was scheduled for this weekend at Hillcrest, has been moved back to May 10-11 to accommodate aeration efforts this week on the greens at Hillcrest.
So, you still have time to sign up for this event.
This weekend, Conquistador will host two events: The Four Corners Stroke Play-Match Play Qualifier is Saturday, followed by the Conquistador Men’s Golf Association Par-3 Tournament on Sunday.
