Clubhouse Porch

First, it was the person with the colored wig and hand-held poster in the gallery.

That anyway appears to have disappeared.

Now it is time for the PGA to put a stop to the obnoxious shouting of “it’s in the hole” after a pro’s tee shot in tournament play. It serves no purpose except to allow the blabbermouth some network airtime.

Besides, this comment is directed to the dimpled ball as it travels through the air. Since when does any golf ball pay attention to the one who delivered the blow to its casing? You hit me, so I am going where I want to go.

I thought this was supposed to be a dignified game. I do not care how much this person paid to get into the gallery, let’s 86 them immediately via the course marshals and ban them from any further privileges at Tour events.

Let’s ramp up enthusiastic applause for shots well placed and put a sock in poor etiquette.

Let’s get down to more local tournament play as the 2013 Dalton Ranch Golf Club Men’s Club Championship will be played Saturday and Sunday. There should be some excellent bragging rights coming out of this event going into next season. Tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. both days.

Right on the heels of the DRGC Men’s Club Championship is the Ska Brewing-Hillcrest Club Championships on Aug. 24-25. This is a combined women’s and men’s championship, which evolved a few years ago and makes for an exciting weekend. This is a 36-hole individual stroke play with $1,000 in added prize purse, along with a kick-in of an additional $250 from the Hillcrest Golf Club Pro Shop. Gross and net scores will be awarded prizes.
