Here we are at the end of another season of reporting on the golf scene in Southwest Colorado.
We have gone through a successful changing of the guard at the Dalton Ranch Golf Club. A glimpse into the future possibilities at the Hillcrest Golf Club and, what might be a beneficial element of a rebounding national economy, the return of golfers after the sluggish recession.
One of my gauges for measuring a golf season’s success is the turnout and following proceeds from charitable tournaments. We have seen both elements, for most of the flagged events, grow incrementally. This community has been, is, and will be a giving populace, always.
When we can, let’s keep giving back and keep the golfing tradition alive.

The Dave Peterson Memorial 3 Clubs and a Putter tournament will be held Saturday at Hillcrest Golf Club. I considered myself a friend of Person’s because of our love of Fort Lewis College athletics. Person, who passed away all too soon, was the best at customer service – with the biggest smile anywhere. I miss him and am glad they are honoring his memory with this event.
Hillcrest also will wrap up its scheduled tournament play with the Coldwell Banker Heritage House Realtors’ Todd Sieger Shootout on Oct. 4. For Hillcrest members only, the shootout is for the top-20 money winners of designated tournaments throughout the 2014 tournament calendar.
