Coaches predict parity for RMAC lady hoops

4 teams receive 1st-place votes in basketball’s preseason poll
Mary Brinton, a 6-1 junior forward from Pagosa Springs High School, was the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks’ lone representative on the preseason All-RMAC team, as voted on by the conference coaches and released Wednesday.

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference coaches think this year’s women’s basketball division can go one of four ways:

Colorado Mesa was picked to win the conference with six first-place votes.

Black Hills State received a pair of first-place votes and was picked to finish second.

UC-Colorado Springs received a trio of first-place votes and was picked to finish third in the conference.

CSU-Pueblo received a pair of first-place votes and was picked to finish fourth.

Abby Kirchoff, the 5-11 senior guard from UC-Colorado Springs, was picked by the coaches in the preseason poll as the Preseason Player of the Year.

Natani Hernandez, the 5-9 senior forward from Western New Mexico, was picked as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Colorado Christian was picked to finish fifth in the conference, while Fort Lewis College and Metro State were picked to share sixth place.

FLC, which finished last season 13-9 and 16-11 overall, landed one player on the preseason All-RMAC team: Mary Brinton, the Skyhawks’ 6-1 junior forward from Pagosa Springs High School.

Regis was picked to finish eighth, Colorado Mines ninth, Western N.M. 10th, Adams State 11th, Chadron State 12th, Western State 13th and N.M. Highlands 14th.
