Kari Plante has been named 2018 Health Hero by the Community Health Action Coalition.
Plante is the leader of the Oral Health Coalition, which was initiated by CHAC.
She developed a successful coalition of dental experts, organizations, businesses and residents to improve oral health care in La Plata County.
Plante, regional oral health specialist for Southwest Colorado and dental navigator at San Juan Basin Public Health, has expanded access to integrated care and coordinated community agencies for referrals and education.
She has also led efforts to expand preventive and restorative oral health care and promote public education about the benefits of oral hygiene and community water fluoridation.
