Regarding Colorado Democrats’ attempts to bypass Colorado’s Electoral College: Undermining the system given to us by the Framers demonstrates complete ignorance of our Federalist principles, designed to protect the rights of the minority. Either that, or it’s a blatant power grab based on the results of the last election.
They would not even be considering it if the urban population centers in L.A. and New York tended to vote Republican, or if Hillary was president.
There are profound reasons why in 1887, the greatest assemblage of intellect, wisdom and knowledge in the history of the world viewed direct, popular elections of the president detrimental to the future of our free republic.
Most importantly, a pure democracy opens the door to despotic control of our government by a popularly elected leader with the ambition and audacity to use his power to abrogate our rights. (President Maduro of Venezuela, for example.)
This kind of radical, fundamental transformation of our republic by Democrats is the reason many of us have started to consider them as anti-American enemies of our republic.
Democrats were given control in Denver by the people of Colorado. But that in no way is an endorsement of their efforts to remake the entire country into their personal vision of a radical, progressive utopia.
We are already subjected to the ideological visions of big-city voters in Denver. We will not sit quietly while Democrats hand power over rural Coloradans to the dictates of urban voters in California and New York.
