Thank you, Mr. Fontana, for reaching out to DISH regarding the availability of Denver TV stations in Durango (Herald, May 12). We share your interest in this issue and want to help increase access to Colorado TV stations for our customers in La Plata County.
We wanted to clear up any confusion that may have resulted from your inquiries to the DISH Customer Service team. You deserve a clearer answer than you have received, and we apologize for that. You gave us the opportunity to improve our communications among our team members and with our customers.
You are correct that the FCC granted the request by La Plata County to allow certain Denver TV stations to be delivered by satellite providers to the county. However, in the wake of that decision, broadcasters in New Mexico filed a legal challenge to the FCC’s initial grant of approval.
Sen. Cory Gardner, Sen. Michael Bennet and Rep. Scott Tipton recently wrote an op-ed in The Durango Herald (May 6) that gives a good overview of actions that have been taken to date and the challenges that remain.
While there is no timeline for the legal challenge to be complete, we will continue to work with the FCC, Congress and the impacted stations to seek the best outcome for our customers.
