USA Today ranked the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad No. 1 on the 2024 list of the 10 best scenic train rides. This marks the fourth consecutive year that D&SNG has ranked No. 1 on USA Today’s list after jumping to the spot in 2021 from a fifth-place ranking on the 2020 list.
Three other Colorado railroads appeared on the list: the Georgetown Loop Railroad, The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway, and Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad which ranked 10th, 8th, and 2nd, respectively.
The D&SNG’s Scenic Silverton trips began on May 4 and will run until Oct. 26.
Nominations for the “Most Scenic Train Ride” and other USA Today top 10 lists are compiled by a panel of travel journalists and the publication’s 10 Best Editors. Readers can then vote via the USA Today website.
