Durango has received yet another accolade.
The 2015 Niche Rankings have named Durango No. 4 on the Best College Towns in America list. The title means the town needs to be home to a college whose enrollment is 20 percent or more of the town’s population and is a great place to live for students and nonstudents alike.
Because it’s about colleges, the site gives letter grades in 10 areas. Durango received A-pluses in things to do, easiest commute, health and fitness and outdoor activities; A for involvement and investment in community; B-plus for education – not at Fort Lewis College, but the K-12 public schools; a B for jobs, including the opportunity for employment and economic stability; and B-minuses for crime and safety and weather. Wait, weather? What?
The top three finishers were Santa Barbara, California, State College, Pennsylvania, and San Luis Obispo, California. College Station, Texas, received a B for weather – an investigation must ensue.
